Detail for Felt Cemetery

Description: Felt is a small community in north Teton County on highway 31. The cemetery is in a pretty isolated location and is poorly kept up, with the headstones located through an area of weeds and sagebrush, but the view of the Tetons from here is spectacular. There is an on-site plot map and index of burials. Notice that many maps incorrectly show this cemetery on the west side of 500 West.

Directions:

Coming from Felt:
Drive out of town to the south on highway 31 heading towards Tetonia. When you reach 1030 North, turn to the right (to the west) and drive just over a mile. You will then reach 500 West, a very poorly maintained road that heads to the south. Turn left here and drive about 1.5 miles. You will find the cemetery on your left, with a sign identifying it as Felt Cemetery. There is a fence, but the headstones are located amongst the native sagebrush. It has a beautiful view of the Tetons to the southeast.

Alerts: Some maps show this cemetery on the opposite side of the road. The northern route, just described, is likely impassable for normal passenger cars in wet weather. It is badly rutted. For a longer, but better route in poor weather, see the following:

Coming from Tetonia:
Drive out of town to the west on highway 33 heading towards Madison County/Rexburg. A couple of miles out of town, just before milestone 130 you will come to 500 West. Turn to your right (to the north) and drive for several miles up the small dirt road. You will come to the cemeter on the right side about a mile and a half before the road ends at 1030 North. You will find the cemetery on your right, with a sign identifying it as Felt Cemetery. There is a fence, but the headstones are located amongst the native sagebrush. It has a beautiful view of the Tetons to the southeast.

Coming from Madison County/Rexburg:
Drive into Teton County on highway 33 heading east towards Tetonia. Just past high milestone 130 you will come to 500 West. Turn left (to the north) and drive for several miles up the small dirt road. You will come to the cemeter on the right side about a mile and a half before the road ends at 1030 North. You will find the cemetery on your right, with a sign identifying it as Felt Cemetery. There is a fence, but the headstones are located amongst the native sagebrush. It has a beautiful view of the Tetons to the southeast.
